Apple iPod Video 30GB and 60 GB MP3 Players
By: Daniel Dwase
The iPod video is sleek, easy to use, and has tons of good features that can
only be found in an iPod. With a gadget like this that can hold 25,000 photos,
can play 75 hours of video and holds 7,500 songs in my opinion this is just an
awesome device. The storage capacity is excellent.
The 2.5-inch screen on the iPod video is sharp and bright and makes it fun when
watching videos on it with its 320 × 240 resolution. Videos appear as a new item
on the top menu and are divided by category including TV shows, video podcasts,
and movies category.
The navigation is the best in all MP3 players and audio quality remains the best.
Video looks remarkably comfortable on it. Brighter shots look very clear and crisp,
though, as with most devices that play back compressed video, you can often see
compression artefacts like banding in dark areas.
The iPod Video supports downloading music from iTunes 6, as well as video encoded as
H.264 or MPEG-4. The battery life is reasonable when playing back videos, and it can
last you around two and half hours.
You wouldn’t want to watch subtitled content or sports on the iPod Video because the
wide camera will make players small. One thing I like about this iPod is it remembers
where you stopped watching a video, so any time you go back to it, you can simply
resume from where you left off. You can also brush through video, though not in real
time; you scroll through a progress bar, and the video jumps to the point where you
stop scrolling.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a player for audio use mostly but occasionally for video viewing
as well, then this is a fantastic choice. If video playback is your main focus then I
recommend you look for something that will suit that need. The iPod Video is the winner
of all the iPod brands. It has a range of advanced features, high quality images and videos.
Great for anyone who wants to enjoy entertainment on the move in style. I have absolutely
no problem recommending the iPod Video (30 GB or 60 GB) versions.
Pros:
1. Has original click wheel and a big screen for viewing photos and watching movies.
2. Video playtime is 75 hours.
3. The looks and the sound quality are second to none with high storage capacity.
4. It’s sleek, easy and fun to use.
5. 30% thinner than old 20GB model.
6. Small enough to fit into your pocket.
7. Very easy to use.
8. Ran videos at roughly 30 frames per second, the same as a broadcast TV signal.
Cons:
1. Battery lasts between 3-4 hours which in my opinion is reasonable unless you want to watch movies all day long.
2. Tricky to download/put videos on.
3. Scratches easily but with an iPod case can solve problem with scratching 1.
