Many families that are just starting out will buy, build it yourself furniture, which comes in a package with all the parts. This works good for bookshelves, desks and other types of furniture is long as you’re willing to follow the directions and take it slow and make sure you use the right parts in the diagrams as you go.

If you make a mistake and use the long screws in the wrong holes in the beginning you will not have them available when you really need them support for another portion of your construction project. Of course for those people with ADHD they may have a trouble building their own furniture and it will probably come out all crooked.

For the home office making your own computer desk, filing cabinets and bookshelves makes sense because you can get your entire office furnished for under $450. Of course if you want a really good stuff it will cost quite a bit more and there is a very big difference in the quality of material and the workmanship of the product.

I have spent many nights helping small business owners, which were my franchisees set up their office furniture and we ordered out pizza and took hours building all the office furniture. I’m sure not all Franchisor’s help their franchisees build their office furniture but it gave me a chance to talk with them about their new entrepreneurial adventure that they were embarking on and it built camaraderie as well.

Nevertheless my advice to you if you are going to build your own furniture; is to take it slow and follow the directions and stay organized and you should be fine. Please consider all this in 2006.
