Dressing Tips for 40-somethings You Must Know

By: Bridget Allen

Traditionally, women in their 40s have found themselves far too busy to worry about fashion. Juggling raising a family with a myriad of responsibilities, including work commitments and serving as a shuttle service for chaperoning their children between dance recitals, music lessons, sports practices, and scouting events, these women are the essence of the word busy! However, the soccer mom look of the years past has been thrown out the window, with 40-something women today working to build and maintain a quality wardrobe filled with essential items that showcases both their bodies and their age. Forty is fantastic age and you should wear your title proudly!

Many 40-something women find themselves at a quandary when it comes to casual wear. Between kids, husbands, friends, family members, and everything else going on in their lives, many women are just too busy to find quality pieces of casual wear. Regardless if you are attending Junior’s baseball game or a party for yourself and your husband only, the right clothing can present you in the best light possible. When searching for quality pieces of casual clothing, stick to the basics. Look for shirts and sweater sets that can easily be mixed and match to produce the most possibilities possible.

The key to dressing for women in their forties is to straddle the line between popular design and the classics that best fit their bodies. Perhaps the most difficult item for women of any age to find is a pair of jeans. A great pair of jeans can perk you up regardless of your mood, so if you find one that fits, by all means, buy multiples! When searching for jeans, choose a pair with a bit of stretch material"”such as Lycra"”incorporated into the blend so that the jeans will fit perfectly each and every time. Depending on your body type, you may want to look at a couple of different styles. Most individuals can successfully wear a pair of jeans with a lower waist band, one that lies at or slightly beneath your navel. This waist line allows the illusion of elongated legs that are perfectly balanced with your torso. Additionally, choose a jean leg that is straight or slightly flared, but not tapered.

Regardless what items you choose to incorporate into your wardrobe, choose items that best suits your body type. Although you should strive to dress in a trendy style, remember your age and do not wear items that are too low cut or revealing.
