The gift card is no less than an ingenious idea and creation. How many times have you gone shopping, or thought about going shopping, to purchase a gift for someone and found yourself completely clueless as to what to get for him or her? Whether it’s because you don’t know the person very well or because the person already has everything, this can be a very frustrating dilemma. Granted, you could always buy the person a pretty little basket with bath and body products in it, a fruitcake, or a candle, but aren’t those ideas a little played out? At least they are for the people who have been gifted them numerous times in their life. It’s the thought that counts though, right? That’s true, but how about being considerate in your thoughts about what someone might truly appreciate getting, and if you don’t know what that is, then how about buying them a gift card?

It’s a perfect escape from the frustration of not knowing what to get, and the disappointment you may cause by giving someone one of those cliché, and often silly, gifts. Maybe you’re going to a wedding for a distant relative you’ve never met, or there was a secret Santa drawing at work and you picked a co-worker that, at most, you’ve nodded and smiled at in the mornings. The bottom line is; you know nothing about this person, so how would you even know where from they would like to have a gift certificate or card? That’s the great thing about these cards; every business has them these days. All people eat, right? So get one from a decent restaurant.

If you only plan on spending $5 to $15, you probably want to steer away from the restaurant idea, because most people don’t want to eat alone, so you would want to put enough on the card for two people to dine out. Besides, these days $5 isn’t even enough for one person to dine out unless you get them a card for McDonalds. Unless you know the person has a real passion for McDonalds, you would probably not want to purchase someone a card from there. An even better idea is to pick out a store that offers many different types of departments, like Walmart or Target. There are so many options for using a gift card that it’s hard to go wrong.
