Then, you search the internet and find the perfect gourmet gift only to be told that it won’t make it on time or "we can’t get it there unless you use overnight air" which often times costs more than the gift itself. Well, don’t fret.

Your best option in this situation is to find a bakery, gift basket business or florist that is in the town where your gift needs to be delivered. In most cases, local companies can make same day or next day deliveries either for free or for a slight fee of less than $10 depending on how far it is to the recipient’s home or business from their shop. The other advantage is that the gift won’t need to be packed in a shipping box to be tossed around by the carrier service. So not only will you get a gift in perfect condition, but you’ll save money too. How would I find a company in another state, you ask? Well you have several options.

#1) We recommend going to the online yellow pages of sites like Yahoo or MSN or AOL. Type in the city and state where your recipient lives and the type of company (e.g. gift baskets) that you are seeking to obtain a list. The disadvantage with the online yellow pages is that they often do not have a link to the company’s website so you can’t see the gift before you order it. However, you could call a company and ask them for their web address to circumvent this problem.

#2) Visit websites such as www.ftd.com or www.teleflora.com. These nationwide florist networks allow you to order through them and then they forward the order on to one of their partners in the town or city near your recipient. These companies usually charge a "wire" fee (say $9.95) for the convenience, but that is likely still cheaper than sending something overnight air.

#3) Visit a florist or gift basket directory such as www.gift-basket-superstore.com. On these websites, companies are listed by their location with links to their websites so you can see their products and order online. The advantage is that you contact the particular business directly and cut out the middleman (and their fees).
