The latest craze amongst junior school aged children (around 6-10 years) is the tamagotchi cyber pet. Following the successful re-introduction of this cyber pet in 2006, the makers, bandai.com, have come up with a new version which is already very difficult to get hold of.

The Tamagotchi
In the mid 1990s, the first tamagotchi was launched. It was a very small hand held computer chipped game, a cyber pet which you fed and cared for. The craze lasted a couple of years. However, since the re-launch of the Tamagotchi in 2005 with the introduction of Version 2, a new craze has started to spread. Version 2 and version 3 Tamagotchis are interactive. They have an infra red connection which allows you to connect them with others so that they can share presents and reproduce.

Version 3
Version 3 tamagotchis are much the same as version 2 with some additional extras. Visually, you can identify a version 3 from a version 2 by the presence of a small stubby antennae on the top left of version 3 models.

Version 3 comes in six colours including cow (black and white), blue camouflage, surf wave, ice cream, clear yellow and tropical flower (green and pink). It also comes with new characters, more games and new items. In addition, the Version 3 gives you new passwords to enter the virtual world of tamagotchis on your pc. Here you can play games and win GOTCHI points which can be used to buy your tamagotchi pet new food and items. Using your password to enter the tamagotchi world allows you to visit foreign destinations and meet the tamagotchi King!

Tamagotchis are a lot fun to play with and ideal for children aged 6 and above. They can be great for car journeys (in daylight) and relaxing after a tough day at school! Back in the 1990s when the tamagotchi craze first struck, many parents were left to care for the pet during the daytime. Parents may well find themselves caring for the baby once again (and finding themselves really quite hooked). It may not be quite the no-nonsense pet that you expect, but still not as messy or expensive as the real thing!
