By: Mike Furlong

Apple announced new iPods and services at
the Apple Showtime event in San Francisco
on September 12, 2006.

You’ve been waiting for them!
Look for improvements!

Brighter screens, longer battery life, higher video resolution,
lower prices, more songs, new design, thinner design.

iPod
With iPod you can play music for up to 20 hours, or watch TV for six and a half hours.
The newest iPod model for has a 60 percent brighter 2.5-inch color display.
The resolution on all its video downloads is being increased from 320 x 240 to 640 x 480.
The fifth generation iPod is also priced lower, $249 for a 30 GB model and $349 for an 80 GB model.
And that 80GB model may come in handy because Apple announced movies on iTunes.
And we all know that movies are hungry for storage!

iPod nano
Of course we still call it the nano!
They didn’t change the name!
The kept the latest iPod nano at the same price as earlier models.
The designs are thinner.
Now the nano has a new aluminum body.
The nano has a brighter display.
It also has twice the storage.
Batteries are always an issue for portable devices.
They improved battery life for the nano.
The nano’s battery life is up to 24 hours.
There are a variety of colors available — five.
There is a nano silver that has 2 GB of storage.
It is priced at $149. There is also a 4GB model now in silver, pink, green and blue colors, that is priced at $199.
There’s a new 8 GB model in black that Apple sells for $249.
Only 0.26 of an inch thick and 1.41 ounces in weight!
According to Apple, all of the models are shipping now,
so if you like to be first on your block with the
latest, greatest, coolest technology you should
be able to find them at retailers and online stores.

iPod Shuffle
Apple redesigned the iPod Shuffle with an aluminum body.
And it’s now a cheaper entry into the game!
The price was lowered from $99 to $79.
Apple says the 1GB iPod shuffle is “the world’s smallest digital music player and all new, from the inside out”
sporting a
sturdy, built-in clip.
Clip it to your pocket, your backpack, purse, pouch or whatever!
It’s a little over an inch and half long and weighs about half an ounce.

iTunes
Apple announced a new version 7 of iTunes with new features of course!
Apple says:

Music, movies, TV shows, and audiobooks, or download free podcasts from the iTunes Store 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Play everything on your Mac or PC. Then sync it to your iPod and bring it along. Anywhere.

iPod features seamless integration with iTunes 7 and the iTunes Store, which now has Hollywood movies, as well as television shows and popular video games.
Apple calls this a this a fifth generation iPod.
and many of the games were designed specifically for it.
The new iPod is available in a 30GB model and an 80GB model.
Of course that kind of storage holds up to 20,000 songs or 100 hours of video,
but believe me if you start compiling videos the storage will go fast!
The 30GB model is priced at US$249 which is lower than it was before.
The 80GB model sells for $349 which reflects a top-of-the-line price
for all that storage capacity.
