The Black Out
By: Mia Rogers
This season, designers decided that the new black would be "˜black.’ Well, it has certainly been a long time and I am sure that my fellow fashionista’s will join me in saying, "welcome back, baby." But wait one second girls, before you go out there with black thirsty eyes in search of the sexiest, chicest, most witchy number you can afford or not afford, let me give you the new rules.
Rules? Yes, rules!
The trend is not just to wear black but to wear it in a new and interesting way. We are not just talking little black dresses here. If you want to look fresh and modern, and let’s face it, that is what we live for, you have got to learn the term, texture. This season’s black is worn with the emphasis being on texture. Texture simply means that you will mix fabrics within one outfit. The easiest way to do this would be to simply add fishnets or any textured hose to your outfit. Sidebar, wear fishnets over sheer black hose.
For those complicated ladies who need a little more, combine leather boots with a velvet corduroy pencil skirt, silk chiffon blouse, and a fur jacket or vest. Cinch the waist with a silk ribbon, and you will be a hit. Sidebar, never, ever, ever, ever, ever combine two skins. Suede and leather? Too eighties! Croc and fur? Too much! It’s best to add only one exotic skin to your look. Opt for a suede bag, croc shoes, or leather jacket. In fact, any fashionista worth her mani-pedi knows that it is best to just keep it simple. Incorporate one or two different textures into your black outfit and you will look the modern It girl that we know you are.
