The Future Perfect; Book Review

By: Lance Winslow

Jon Michlethwait did an excellent job of writing the Future Perfect; The Hidden Challenge and Hidden Promise of Globalization. This book was good for many reasons and as a futurist myself I was excited to read it and look at the world from his perspective and then stated; Our destiny has been detected, the journey always suspected.

The book was co-authored and both authors are economists, which would lead you to believe the book might be a little dry and boring, but both authors are indeed able to be quite witty at times; even though one might assume that their profession makes that difficult. It is very convincing book, although not all predictions can be a perfect crystal ball; they certainly did a wonderful job with it and you should read this book.

The future perfect may not be a perfect future judging by the human experience of the past, where greed, protectionism, politics and innate Machiavellian characteristics of a man exist. However it should be noted that this book does comment on all those factors and outlines the possibilities.

Of course in any futurist type book along this lines there will always be lots of ifs. I have indeed recommended this book to many friends and today, I also recommend it to you as well. I sincerely hope you enjoy it and since it has been out a few years you can find it on sale used fairly inexpensively and therefore there could be no reason not to read from cover to cover. You should be reading more and perhaps talking less and giving your opinion without knowledge even fewer times. This book will certainly show you a new perspective and one worth viewing. So, consider reading this in 2006.
