Turbo Jam - The Fun Way to Shape Up!

By: Dawn Lloyd

Turbo Jam is a high energy, blood-pumping workout that combines kickboxing with a little bit of "getting your groove on". But if you are uncoordinated, don’t despair! The "Learn and Burn" instructional video teaches you the basic workout moves, step by step and at your own pace. As the least graceful person I’ve ever met, I can tell you that it only took me a few tries to catch on to these workouts and I have enjoyed Turbo Jam more than any other workout in my collection!

Within just a few weeks of regular use, I began to see and feel the changes to my body, most noticeably my thighs and abs. I was also thrilled as the workouts became easier to complete; my kicks were higher, my punches stronger, my endurance longer. I find that I sweat more doing Turbo Jam than any of my regular forms of cardio, leaving me to feel as if I have really accomplished something.

Turbo Jam incorporates the “interval training” that is so popular with athletes and fitness experts these days. Interval training is recognized by many as an effective method of burning fat in less time than traditional cardio. It consists of a pattern of short, high intensity cardio bursts to bring your heart rate up, followed by a “recovery” period, which allows your heart rate to come back down. The onscreen countdown timer will remind you how long you have left in each interval, making it easier to push yourself just a little further to finish each set!

The men and women that are featured in the various workouts come in all body sizes and types. You will notice a few of them transform from one workout to the next. Some tend to get a bit funkier with their moves than others, but there is always at least one that keeps it low-impact for us "˜rhythmically challenged’ folks. When you are ready to advance to the next level, you can purchase additional collections and weighted gloves to continue to challenge yourself.

It’s no wonder that Turbo Jam is such a hit! Chalene Johnson is the ideal instructor with a sparkling personality that means you can’t help but have a blast! The workouts are perfectly choreographed to such great classics as "Mama Said Knock You Out", "Party Train", and other early 90’s dance hits. Chalene is one step ahead at all times "¦ you won’t have to stand around awkwardly and wonder what move comes next. She will keep you rolling seamlessly through the entire workout. Chalene and her entire crew are extremely motivating and they have succeeded where many workouts have failed … I went from dreading cardio to looking forward to my next Turbo Jam session! Eight months later and twenty pounds lighter, I’m still addicted! I now own the entire collection and have all my friends hooked as well!
